Early 911 has become inolved in the restoration of an ex-works rally car.  This car competed in the London to Sydney Rally in 1977 in the hands of Sobieslaw Zasada , “the Polish rally fox”, and Wojiek Schramm.  The car finished 13th, 9h 59m behind the leader Andrew Cowan, in a Mercedes W123 after 30,000kms

The Rally set out from the Covent Garden Opera House at 11.00am on Sunday, August 14th and arrived in Madras, taking just 10 days to reach the far side of India… having crossed India from Bombay.

The route in Europe took in Amsterdam and Frankfurt before reaching Paris, then on to Milan, down the Adriatic coast to Athens, then back up to Istanbul, Ankara, Tabriz, Yaz, Tehran, right through Afghanistan to Kabul, through the Khyber Pass to Lahore, into India, crossing by boat to Penang in Malaysia, and from Singapore, shipping to Perth.

The route through Australia drove up to Ayres Rock, then a long loop north around Mount George and back to Alice, then down to Port Augusta and Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, left a bit to Menindee, up to Warri Gate, Khee, Charleville, Brisbane, now south and west to Goondwindi, Barraba, Pokolbin and Sydney’s Opera House.

This car was originally LHD, but was converted by Porsche to RHD for its rally life in Australia.
