1972 RHD 911S

The car as it came to Early 911.  It was painted in Guards Red but still with its original but very tired Tan interior. To ensure that all the rust is eradicated the shell was sand blastedSeveral panels needed replacing..  After all the repairs have been carried out the shell was etch primed ready for final paint preparation.

The car was delivered to its new owner in April 2006 and won 2nd prize at the Classic Le Mans 2006 Porsche concours (below)

Work carried out

  • Body:
    Stripped to a bare shell and sand blasted. All stone chip and sealer removed by hand. Placed on jig and the following panels replaced with new genuine Porsche panels:

    Near side rear inner wing.
    Near side and offside inner and outer sills and kidney bowls.
     Both battery boxes.
    Both rear quarters.
    Both front wings.
    Front S bumper.
    Rear number plate panel
    Local repairs were carried out to both front inner wings, near side floor edges, offside rear inner wing and front windscreen corners.

    The bonnet, engine lid, doors and rear bumpers were replaced with excellent used panels.

    The bare shell has been etch primed, sprayable sealer applied to the underside, all arches, engine bay and parts of the luggage compartment.

    The shell was then primed, painted in Lechler water based Green Metallic paint and 2 pack high solid lacquer by Impact.  Refitted with all new rubbers. Waxoyled.
     
  • Suspension:
    All suspension parts have been sand blasted and powder coated in satin black and all fixings have been zinc plated. The original Fuchs rims have been refurbished and anodised.  Reassembly with the following new parts:

    Koni front strut inserts.
    Koni rear dampers.
    Front and rear wheel bearings and drive shaft CV joints.
    Turbo tie rod kit.
    Complete SuperPro polyurethane bush kit.
    Michelin XWX 185/70 x 15 tyres
    Alignment by Jez Parsons of Carrera Performance.

    Brakes:
    Rebuilt callipers by Classicar Automotive, new discs and pads all round, master cylinder rebuilt, new pipes, fittings and hoses throughout. New hand brake shoes and cables.

    Interior:
    Original vinyl Recaro sports seats have been re-trimmed in tan leather.  All other panels also re-trimmed in the same tan leather. New carpets in the original brown colour. Dashboard panels trimmed in leather. Seat frames powder coated and re-plated. Instruments refurbished. New door pockets. New headlining. Steering wheel recovered. Original dash covering.
     
  • Motor and Gearbox
    Original motor stripped, cleaned and checked, replacement used barrels and pistons fitted. All tin ware powder coated and fittings plated. New parts:

    Piston rings.
    Mains and big end bearings
    Con rod bolts and gudgeon pin circlips
    Cam chains
    Valves and guides
    Oil seals and gaskets
    Spark plugs, leads and caps.
    SSI heat exchangers.
    Stainless steel silencer and straps.
    Rebuilt alternator.

    The gearbox has been rebuilt by Jez Parsons of Carrera Performance with new synchros on all 5 gears and new gaskets and seals. The flywheel was refaced and a new clutch and cable fitted.
     
  • Assembly
    New rubbers, seals and trims used throughout.
    New front windscreen and front and rear trims.
    Front, side and rear rubbers.
    New, genuine, Porsche bumper trims front and rear.
    Fuel tank chemically stripped, cleaned and resealed.
    New headlights and indicator lenses fitted.
    Original indicator housings front and rear.
    New, genuine, sill, threshold and carpet edge trims.
    New batteries.
    Door caps polished and anodized.
